Tiraki Sauvignon Blanc 2021
Tiraki is Maori for ‘clearing of the sky’
Tiraki pays homage to the local Maori name for Marlborough “Kei Puta te Wairau” or “Hole in the sky over Wairau”. This is important to us given our Maori heritage and longstanding family connection with the region.
Clouds parting is synonymous with new beginnings and optimism. Through our wine, we aspire to share our joy, passion and sense of adventure with the world.
Tasting notes
Light color almost transparent like crystal water. An elegant & complex Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc savoury nose with layers of character… melon, grapefruit, guava, peach kernel, warm stones and smoky nuances The palate shows hints of wild nettle, tropical fruits. Full, fleshy, dry and tasty on the palate with good concentration and a nice textural element leading to a long finish reminiscent of quince paste and a lingering mineral finish.
Food Pairing: Enjoy as an aperitif on a warm summer’s day or match with anything fresh from the ocean!
Description
Tiraki Sauvignon Blanc 2021 from Marlborough, New Zealand
Grape: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Vineyard: Fruit sourced from our Oddstone vineyard. Free draining alluvial soils. Vine age 10-14 years.
The vineyards are established on Longfield Farm, purchased by the family in 1870. With six generations involved over the past 150 years, the 260Ha property has evolved substantially. However, what has remained constant is the family’s commitment to providing products of the highest quality whilst continuing to nurture the land for future generations.
Nestled in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough lies the Longfield Farm. Since 1999, the property has gradually been developed into an extensive vineyard, growing a variety of premium grapes including Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. High sunshine hours, wide diurnal range, clay soils and our dedicated team work together to produce outstanding grapes that our family winemaker transforms into unique world-class wines. Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough.
Vintage: The 2020/21 growing season started with a cool spring, resulting in a moderate flowering, naturally lowering vine yields. Summer was warm and dry and fruit was picked in early Autumn in pristine condition.
Winemaking: For this Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, the fruit was picked in the cool of the night to retain aromatic flavors. Gently pressed the tank to settle. The clear juice was fermented at low temperatures with selected yeast strains to enhance aromatic intensity. 5 months aging on lees in tank to increase weight and mouthfeel.
